Homecoming is known to be one of the best times of year here at Iowa State University. When most people think of homecoming, only the football game comes to mind, however, here at Iowa State there are many other events that people can attend. Homecoming week starts with the homecoming parade the Sunday before homecoming week. I was a part of the homecoming parade this year because I coach the Xcel team at Cardinal Gymnastics Academy and we were invited to walk! It was a lot of fun to see the kids I coach, out in public having fun doing what they love.
Starting last Saturday, they had a meal each day on Central Campus. You could buy a button for the week for $5 which I think is an absolute steal! On Friday night there are SO many things that one can attend. One of the big events is the Pep Rally (I didn’t even know that they had it until this year), I thought it was pretty amazing! One of the main events of homecoming is the Greek Yell-Like-Hell event. Although I have never went and watched, I have heard some really awesome feedback about it. Definitely on my list of things to do for next year. My favorite event was the late night pancakes by far. I mean, who doesn’t like pancakes at 10pm. Probably the most iconic homecoming event is campaniling. I was shocked because people started waiting around the campanile at 10:30, that is a long time to wait!
My favorite thing about Iowa State, is the fact that no matter the score of a game, fans are truly what our fight song states, “Loyal Sons Forever True”. The amount of energy the student section brings each game is one to see for yourself. I can’t imagine being apart of any other school’s student body. I am proud to state that I am a student at Iowa State. There is truly no place I’d rather be. That is what homecoming is all about, being able to be proud and involved here. No matter the score, being a cyclone is one of the best things to ever happen to me. Go State!
